Complete Thyroid Panel
The Complete Thyroid Panel measures thyroid gland activity, peripheral conversion of thyroid hormone and thyroid autoantibodies. This may be useful even when regular thyroid blood tests indicate “normal”. Thyroid abnormalities are an extremely common hormonal disorder, especially for women.
The thyroid is responsible for energy and metabolism throughout the body. The hormones produced and regulated by the thyroid are important for growth and development, mood, conversion of food into energy and sex hormone balance. When the thyroid is off, our whole system feels run down. When under functioning, people feel fatigued, lack motivation, have difficulty losing weight, difficulty with concentration, feel depressed, and tend to have more trouble with digestion. A hyperactive thyroid causes anxiety, insomnia, heart palpitations, spontaneous sweating, hair loss and fatigue. When the thyroid is corrected it is like a light switch coming on in the body, helping our immunity, energy and reproductive hormone balance.
This test includes: TSH, free T4, free T3, Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) antibodies, Anti-Thyroglobulin (ATG) antibodies, TSH Receptor antibodies and the often untested reverse T3 - a hormone that looks like T3 on standard tests, but does not act like T3 - resulting in false negative test results.
